Trauma Informed Care is a strength-based service approach that involves understanding, recognizing, and responding to the effects of all types of trauma. TIC emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety for both the individual’s receiving services and the practitioners delivering them. TIC helps survivors rebuild a sense of control and empowerment and involves vigilance in anticipating and avoiding the institutional processes and individual practices that are likely to retraumatize individuals who already have histories of trauma.

This full-day instructor-led training is specifically tailored for providers working with individuals impacted by Substance Use Disorders (SUDs). The workshop will discuss the effects of trauma on health and SUDs and apply the principles of TIC to an individual’s plan of care. This evidence-based training will discuss prevention of SUDs and identify risk factors as precursors to SUDs. Finally, the workshop will cover how TIC identifies and meet individual needs in SUD care, and the role it plays in recovery.
