Mental Health First Aid for Adults (MHFA)
MHFA is an evidence-based approach that teaches participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.
The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it helps trainees identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.

What is MHFA?
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a public education program that teaches participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges. This training teaches participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.
MHFA uses a practical, evidence-based action plan to help someone in crisis connect with professional, peer, social, and self-help support. The program was developed in Australia in 2001 and is now taught in more than 25 countries. The U.S. version is managed by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
Training Details
MHFA Training & Certification
- Duration: 1 day
- Training offered on-site (your location or ours)
- Prior to attending the in-person training, you are required to complete 2 hours of pre-work completed online
- Certificate of completion awarded at the conclusion of the course
This training teaches participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Using a 5-step action plan, Mental Health First Aiders learn to assess the situation, provide initial help, and connect the individual with professional support.
