Natalie I think the most challenging aspect of learning CAT
Natalie for new practitioners is just believing in the model.
Natalie Believing in all these new words they're learning,
Natalie these new interventions.
Natalie Apathy, disinhibition, better, poor.
Natalie Having to figure out these categories
Natalie and believing that it's going to add value
Natalie to what they already know and what they already practice.
Natalie So, they may have some doubts
Natalie coming into CAT training,
Natalie which is great, I love those folks.
Natalie Because I love, at the end of training,
Natalie or in the middle of training,
Natalie when they have this "AHA!" Moment,
Natalie and you can see that they understand,
Natalie that they get it.
Natalie And a lot of times, I think that they get it
Natalie and have that moment because they see so quickly
Natalie 'cause we're often out in the homes
Natalie and doing these demonstrations with our clients.
Natalie And so I think, while it is challenging for them
Natalie to believe sometimes that it's going to work,
Natalie it's also so satisfying
Natalie to have them go through this learning period,
Natalie where they are just huge fans
Natalie of this type of intervention.
Shaniece I feel that incorporating CAT therapy
Shaniece with clients is very important.
Shaniece Giving them the practical skills,
Shaniece modeling and showing them exactly
Shaniece how to take the steps
Shaniece to improve and to obtain their goals is very important,
Shaniece and also, I feel that it is definitely rewarding.
Shaniece There could be challenges and tough times,
Shaniece but at the end, I feel that I've had times
Shaniece with a lot of clients where I could see them
Shaniece start the program and grow
Shaniece and gain a lot of independence.
Shaniece And that, that definitely is worth it.
Anthony I felt helpless when I first got out of the hospital,
Anthony and it was a very dark place for me.
Anthony So, as the program came on, it was pretty quick.
Anthony My first state of mind was shock,
Anthony like "I do not wanna be around these people,"
Anthony but a little voice kept telling me,
Anthony "Just let them in, this is gonna work for you."
Anthony All the preconceived notions that you've had
Anthony in your mind about having these people in your home;
Anthony it's a lot different than what you would expect.
Anthony It's comforting, it's goal-oriented,
Anthony and the people really care about you.
Anthony They wanna know if you're gonna do well,
Anthony and if you're gonna do well, they wanna be a part of it.
Candice I just want anyone who knows,
Candice that's going through this training process,
Candice this work really matters,
Candice and I know we say that as a cliché as helping professionals.
Candice But I can tell you as someone
Candice who's experienced the magic of CAT,
Candice I've seen folks who are not really sure
Candice if they're gonna be successful out in the community.
Candice I'm questioning it, they're questioning it,
Candice their team of helping professionals are questioning it.
Candice To see them, completely, be able to
Candice live their most independent life.
Adan It's important, to me, to work with people with my goals
Adan because I want to be independent,
Adan and in order for me to be independent,
Adan I have to set my goals as home ownership,
Adan driver's license reinstated, taxpayer,
Adan and ready to be on my own in the real world.
Adan And I really enjoy working with these people
Adan They also give me 100% to work with,
Adan and I also enjoy it.
Cindy We all have that "AHA!" moment,
Cindy that moment in time when you're providing CAT
Cindy and you get that sense of like,
Cindy "This is why we do CAT."
Cindy And it's those "AHA!" moments that you wanna hold onto
Cindy throughout your career providing CAT
Cindy because, no matter the challenges you come across
Cindy with any individual that you work with,
Cindy everyone has an "AHA!" Moment.
Cindy If it's just from figuring out a doctor's appointment,
Cindy if it's from organizing medications,
Cindy or if it's something as simple as getting them
Cindy involved in their families' lives again.
Cindy for the person that you're working with
Cindy and you're providing the services to.
Cindy Because, to others, it might not seem like a big deal,
Cindy but for them, it's definitely a large change.
Ben My life now, as opposed to before CAT,
Ben it's improved quite a bit.
Ben I'd say that, I'm able to go out more
Ben because I've done the things that I need to do.
Ben I'm able to be more independent in life,
Ben not having to rely on other people
Ben to help me with the little things,
Ben I'm able to do more of them by myself.
Natalie My positive feelings about it
Natalie have just grown exponentially over the years
Natalie because I get to see people recover.
Natalie Clients who achieve goals
Natalie they never thought they could achieve.
Natalie They get a driver's license,
Natalie they go back to work,
Natalie they renew their relationships with their family,
Natalie they have bought houses, lived independently.
Natalie Just, I mean, the list goes on and on.
Natalie The reason I keep doing this is really because of them.
